Today at 7:30am the kids and myself went to the Meps (Military enrollment placement station) station to see George sworn into the military. He did not actually swear in until around 12pm. However we are not complaining, okay maybe the kids are because there was nothing to do but wait, but I was not because that meant that we got to hang out with George longer. I appreciate that my parents and sister were there as well for support. I know that my dad made this sacrifice as well for his family and I am grateful to have a husband that is following in his footsteps. George looked so handsome in his army black top and cargo pants. He also looked really ready to start this adventure. He is ready. He has been exercising and studying the materials for the ARMY. Hey, I even know the Unlisted Ranks. (Thanks to the 8 hour car ride to Houston last weekend.) Yes, In may ways the kids and myself having been preparing for the Army as well. We know it is going to be an adjustment. I already miss him. I held the tears in until his bus drove away. George is an incredible husband and the man of my dreams. He is also a good father to the kids. I know he is doing this for us and I am so grateful for his sacrifice. Yes, it will mean that we will have to move around but the most important thing is that we will be together.
We love him and support him. His graduation date is scheduled right now to be 1o/16/2008. After that he will be in San Antonio for 5 months to train to be a medic in the ARMY. Next year like this we will be together again at our new duty station. Maybe I will create a poll on where everyone thinks we might me assigned!!!!
Thank you for your support..

Yes, George is off to Fort Benning, Georgia. Joe, Ami, and Elizabeth were also there to support George and Hilary today. We met them at the MEPS station around 8:30am and brought donuts, hugs, and well wishes. Plus, Papa Sarge (Joe) was able to give some last minute advice to Stephanie and Ian as they prepared to see their father leave for basic training.
As you might know, Joe and Ami have been down this same road in 1975 when Joe enlisted in the Army. The only differences being that 1)Hilary was just 8 months old when her father left, 2)Joe was assigned to Fort Ord, CA which was only 3 hour bus trip away, and 3) We knew that Joe's first duty station would be Fort Lewis, WA.
As George prepared to be sworn in today, Joe and Elizabeth reflected on their own swearing in ceremonies and time in service. We honor Joe serving in the Army post-Vietnam during the Cold War in Europe, becoming a top Army recruiter, sustaining the Korean presence, and then training hundreds of troops during the first Desert Storm. Elizabeth enlisted in the Navy immediately following 9/11/01, and was instrumental in the security badging operations of Chania, Crete, security protection force in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and management of security force and boat operations in Mayport, Florida. Joe and Elizabeth are incredibly strong examples of service to their country and providing leadership to those in their line of influence. George is in fine company and will be carrying on a worthy family tradition.
