Vamanos a Las Vegas!!

Okay after having a quick rest of only 4 hours, we awoke to catch the shuttle bus for the Denver Airport. We were tired but made it through security without setting off any alarms.  We then sat down at our gate for the next 2 hours until our plane boarded for Vegas. While we were waiting my husband noted another soldier sleeping in a chair. My wonderful husband then went to McDonald's (he hates McDonald's but that was the only breakfast food place) and bought the soldier a breakfast meal and also a meal for another waiting passenger that had been at the airport all night. I love that about my husband. My husband ended up talking to the soldier for a little while and we found out that he was headed to his first duty station at Fort Hood.

Well our plane boarded around 6:45am and Ian, Stephanie, and George sat together. I sat across the isle but we took up row 13 (George's favorite number). When we first boarded the plane the stewardess in the front noted that my husband was wearing an Infantry shirt and asked George if he was currently serving in the military. George said that he was and the lady said "thank you for your service" and that they would take good care of him.  A little while later before we boarded another stewardess stopped at George's seat and asked him if he was currently serving in the military. He said that he was and they also thanked him for his service. We both thought that was pretty nice. But when the stewardess started the pre-flight message she said that an active duty military soldier was on the plane and thanked him over the load speaker for his service and then all of the passengers, on the plane, clapped for George. What an emotional moment for him. I am really impressed in the patriotism of Frontier Airlines. That was very touching for our family. George also received free movies through out the entire flight.

Well we arrived in Vegas around 11am and headed straight to the Enterprise car rental. We had booked a reservation for a standard car but when they saw the George was military they bumped us up to a mid size car. We thought that was pretty cool.  We then loaded up our car and headed for the Vegas strip. Now, I had been there many times before since I only lived an hour and half away from there about 10 years ago. But this was the first time the kids and George had been to Vegas.

We did drive down the main strip which has grown even more since the last time I had seen it a few years ago. We had reservations at the New Orleans Hotel but we could not check in until 3pm so we just drove around. We went to eat at one of my favorite restaurant called; "Cafe Rio." I have to say that their pork salad is to die for. We then traveled on to see Boulder/Hoover dam which is near Vegas. It was important to see that sight since my Poppy, who we would visit later on in the trip, had helped build the power plant. We did end up taking a tour, with the help of my dad, of the power plant. We are glad we did because we got to learn a lot and see where my Poppy had worked and helped build.

Afterwards, we went to the New Orleans Hotel and checked into our room. We had some friends meet us, at the Hotel, and we went out to eat at Fuddruckers with them. We topped the evening off with ice cream and then crashed when we got back to our room. However Stephanie got spoiled by her dad and had a big carmel apple for dessert before returning to our room. I also remember Ian not being tired when we got back but the rest of us were exhausted so lights were turned out. No need to count sleep for us that night (okay maybe Ian who was ready to hit the town).
